These guys are scum, plain and simple. When I went to test drive a new Lancer, they wouldn't let me do anything until I could prove that I was interested. So, I brought them a certified check for the amount they quoted me. But it wasn't enough, because there was another grand of hidden expenses, too.
So, then when I finally got to test drive, the salesperson wouldn't let my friend, who's pretty knowledgeable on cars, come along. He drove about a block away on a dirty little road, turned around, and came almost all of the way back. Then he got out and gave me a chance to drive it. That drive was about 150 feet, take a right, then merge left and get back into the dealership. Not nearly enough for me to get a feel for the car.
So when I got back to the dealership, I told them that I'd think about it, and the manager there, I believe, told me that they'll just hang on to my certified check (which, mind you, is pretty much the same thing as cash). I actually got into an argument over them giving me my own money back.
Now, I did go in there really, seriously wanting to drive home in that thing. It was disappointing to see that they hadn't corrected a few issues I had with my last Lancer, but I still did like it.
They managed to talk themselves out of a sale, though. It seems to be their strong point.
But look on the bright side; they have a good selection of cars there, since they don't seem to turn over much inventory. The salesman I talked to hadn't sold anything in over two months, and the manager told me that, in that business, it's not all that unusual.
I went to a Subaru dealership down in Victor, everyone sells a few cars in a week. They leave the keys in cars, and if you want a testdrive, they'll get you a dealer plate. You can go, give it a spin. Take five of your friends, and buy it at your leisure. It's really a no hassle place. Pretty much the opposite of the scum at Cortese.
