Comments I stopped at Davidson Nissan's Used Car store on Arsenal Street today to look at a truck that caught my eye as I drove buy. I asked a sales person if I could look at the truck and if it were possible to get the keys for a test drive. No big deal....Until the guy starts asking me for all of my personal/non-public information. He wasn’t rude or anything. He was doing his job. I had no issue providing my driver’s license for a test drive but that wasn't enough. The guy asks for my home number to put with the copy of the license. At this point I let the guy know I expected to have the sheet of paper that he was writing on when I left the store. He didn't seem to have an issue with this but went into the store manager's office and came back with a work up sheet or a credit application. I let him know I wasn’t interested in doing any of that yet as I haven’t even looked at the truck yet. He then informs me, and I quote "We won't let you test drive the truck until we know you can afford it". So with that I tell the guy I would like the copy of my license and tell him "thanks for your time, but I just wanted to take a look at the truck, not give you a bunch of personal information so you can sell it". He gave me the copy of my information and then I began to leave. I'm in my car and getting ready to back out when the salesmen and the manager come out of the store headed for my car. I figure the manager was coming out to apologies and ask me to come back in to do business. Boy was I wrong. The manger comes up to my car and I roll the window down and shut it off to hear what he has to say. To my surprise he wasn't polite, nice, apologetic or even charming like I expected. He begins to question me in an accusatory tone about why I would have an issue with them collecting this information. I let him know that I was only window shopping and didn't want any trouble. That is when I noticed that his right hand was balled into a fist at his side. His left hand was gripped on the car door tightly as if he needed to hold on to it for balance. That is when I got a little weirded out. He goes on to explain to me that it is their policy to do a check on people before letting them look at or drive a $30,000 car, to make sure they can actually afford it. The kicker here is not what he said, but how he said it and the look on his face when he, the manager, uttered the words. It all came out as if he were looking down his nose at me. He was trying to be arrogant. As if I had not the means to purchase the truck that I simply wanted to look at. I had had enough and let the guy know that I was no longer interested in the truck or doing business with anyone affiliated with his store. I asked him if he had an issue with this. Note though that during this entire conversation his right hand remained balled in a fist, and his left was still clutched around the edge of the door. To make it clear to him that I was actually about to leave I started the car and began to put the window up. He yanked his left hand back and then slapped his right hand down on top of the door lock. The look on his face at this point was priceless because it was one of those “oops, I screwed up” looks. You know. The face you make when you hit a fly ball right towards the right fielder. He then turned and began to walk away. As he walked back into the store, he turned and looked me in the eyes shaking his head with a smirk on his face as if I had done something wrong. I’ll admit I was tempted to stay a little longer and thump this punk but decided since it was Good Friday I would be better off just leaving. I’m not sure what the guy’s name is but he is the younger brother from the Davidson Auto Group commercials that air on local stations in Watertown, NY. He is the one that still has most of his hair and looks like a chump. Anyway, I won’t be going there anymore.
